To the roots of the mountain runs the red river
Before the last sunset the world fades to the cold black
The light is slowly swallowed by the unforgiving shadows
And then there shall be silence, in the dark winter night
Under cold black sky, lies the ancient wild land
Where my old ones lived worshipping ancient forces
In the morning mist, to the blackened beach
Hear the lonely sound of the calm waves of the sea
The grey clouds are coming, bringing icy snowstorms
The world falls asleep and my spirit shall rise again
In the breeze of the night, the evil is at work
While the darkness breaks through this land once free
Slow and creepy, the pale moonlight rises up
And the power of the forest shall absorb my essence

That slowly kills hopes, foretelling the advent of death.
Frozen lake, deep and dark
Surrounded by a creepy silence

That lie true and wise, reflecting a sad, old world
Full of the tears of a faraway sky
Who rest patient, since this was a free land
The old forest beneath the stars
Far and black in the night
The blowing wind shakes treetops
A pure and living essence, who cries for whom the end has come
Far beyond the great mountains, far away
Over the land of the cold and the perennial night
Mountains high, great and wild
Your snowy peaks touch the sky
Beyond the highest clouds
Where only black birds fly and none could hope to reach
Watching over fields and woods, that time cannot corrode
Ancient like the Earth
Great rivers flowing fast and free
Running through wild woods and vast lands
With your loud yet calm voice
Take away thoughts and worries, even if only for one moment

Black birds fly away screaming loud in terror
A dying creature, who knows the end is near
Somewhere between the trees
You can smell its skin and blood
The night has come and its spirits laugh creepy
Nocturnal demons more ancient than wood
They cursed them and drove them away
Lurking in darkness and planning in silence
Feel their cold breath behind your back
Red eyes are watching and then vanish behind the trees
They’re calling my name. They are near and they want me
Howling beasts worshiping full Moon
The blood is flowing out
May the Ritual get started!
Ancient spirits, I am calling you!
Newer fire burn within my eyes
I summon you, ancient spirits of the forest
The pale star light filters through the trees
It’s a cold black night. It’s a blood and death night
The forest echoes with loud screams
Black blood wets the ground
The Ritual is completed
Then there’s silence between the trees
Rising to an higher renewed form
From my old life’s ashes
I was in chain into an impure world
But now I’ll rest forever, as part of the wood

Hidden in the mist to the roots of the cliff

Endless sea, I hear your mighty voice
Sad is the fate of the ones who follow your call
From afar I look to the horizon
Lost in a dream I can’t fulfill
Never-ending fall, into a deep void
There’s no escape. Such a sad end
I am sinking into the depths of the sea
The light soon fades but I have no fear
I feel I can breathe leagues under the sea

This album rocks! Has a great atmosphere. I really enjoy this type of BM that is more meditative, with excellent riffs. Love the sound of the guitar and drums. That snare drum hit is perfect. I am looking forward to future releases. Might be my new fav band!

The first 30 seconds of "Revenge by Fire" convinced me to get the whole album! It is a face-melting blend of speed and black metal, reminiscent of Hellripper! KVAEN is a Swedish solo project much like Hellripper but many known guest musicians helped J. Björnfot in his endeavor. Altogether it is really a solid debut album, I loved the melodies and the pace changes in the second half too, ending with a "calm" instrumental one. Well-done!!
